We hate to say it, but summer is starting to wind down. And that means school is right around the corner. If your children are heading back soon, here are a few simple suggestions to making the transition as painless as possible for both you and your children.
Sometimes it’s difficult for children to adjust to the new school schedule. Start pushing their bedtimes up about 15 minutes earlier and wake them up a little earlier as well so it isn’t such a disruptive change.
Clean out your coat closet or the space your children will be storing backpacks and other school supplies. Make sure each child has their own space and knows where their belongings go. That way they build a sense of responsibility for their things and you have less of a mess to clean up.
See what school supplies are still needed after the first few days of school. There may be some odds and ends that were missed and you want to be sure your child has everything they need for a successful year!
Put all important dates, meetings and sporting events on a calendar you can sync so it can be shared on your phones, tablets and computers. That way everyone knows what’s going on and when.
Get a couple folders for each child to store important papers. One is for papers you need to take action on and one is for papers you need to keep for reference throughout the year. Go through these files monthly and discard any unnecessary papers.
Minimize Morning Stress
Try to prepare as much as possible in the evening so the morning routine is less stressful. Lay out clothing the night before, make sure lunches are packed, and breakfast is within reach.
